Tanzanite is one of the most distinct gem minerals in the world. It's actually the blue/purple variety of the mineral Zoisite, and is only found in one place in the world. Faceted stones of Zoisite are some of the most popular gems in the world, and fine crystals are some of the most desirable gem crystals out there. This piece is a beautiful, sharp, lustrous, gemmy Tanzanite crystal from this world famous locality in the Merelani Hills. The crystal is notably tapered on the termination and exhibits good pleochroism with a fine purple hue when viewed from the front / "a" axis, and then a blue color can be seen when looking across the "b" axis. Very good condition all around. Specimen weight is 1.77 grams.
