Zircons are some of the oldest and most fascinating minerals out there, in terms of science; and equally rare in the form of good specimens for collectors bigger than thumbnails. This small cabinet-sized display specimen hosts a significant 3.4 x 3 x 3 (approximately) cm crystal of red zircon, expertly excavated out of the surrounding matrix which has resulted in a natural pedestal for display. These crystals from Pakistan started coming out nearly 20 years ago, and generally are 1-2 cm at most. This is a monster! It is a rare, display-quality zircon specimen with color and size, that has long sat in the broad Pakistani locality suite of the Gene Meieran collection, alongside fancy tourmalines and gem species. Valued $6000-7500, this is an important specimen for what it is.
