Zircon (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A classic red Zircon from Mendig (the label says Niedermendig = Lower Mendig) featuring a 1 mm single, sharp, lustrous, gemmy crystal with strong color saturation sitting on volcanic matrix. Beautiful to view under magnification. It should be noted that the label says this locality is in Eifel, but this is not the case, and this mistake happened a lot on older labels of this material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4918). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
