Item Description

A great association specimen from one of the most classic eastern US localities with wonderful pedigree! This piece is a good representative piece of Franklin ore featuring dark red Zincite with black Franklinite, Willemite, and whitish Hydrozincite and Calcite, but the most important aspect of the piece is that it dates back to the 1860's. The piece is from the collection of Rich Kosnar, who was born and raised in New Jersey, and assembled a great New Jersey mineral colleciton during his life. Rich obtained this specimen from noted Colorado geologist, Allen Heyl (for whom the species Aheylite was named), and according to Allen's personal collection label, the piece originally came from the collection of Frederick Alexander Canfield, one of America's leading mineral collectors of the early 20th century. Allen's label states that the specimen was actually found in the foundation of the Canfield shed in 1938. A really cool specimen that really lights up under SW UV light!
