Item Description
Rare, solid mass of zincite from the famous Sterling Mine, Co-type Locality for the species along with the nearby Franklin Mine. The mottled red to orange to brown gradients on the faces add color and character. Crystals are extremely rare and this excellent example has one or possibly two sharp faces although it is mostly cleavage fragments in massive ore. This was actually the ore which they could mine and smelt long ago so little enough survives. Old material in the Rock Currier Collection #674 and acquired from the Denny Sutherland Collection in 1966. Classic and rich zincite from the Sterling Mine.
