Item Description

The Franklin Mining District has produced over 400 different mineral species (see https://www.mindat.org/loc-3947.html). With that said, Zincite is one of the most well-known and recognizable species from Franklin. Additionally, Franklin is the type locality for Zincite. This piece features attractive deep red colored crystalline Zincite on several sides, sitting atop a matrix of black Franklinite and beige Willemite, which shows a strong green fluorescence under SW UV light. There are also so pale pinkish-white fibrous crystals of Sussexite on the back of the piece. A very attractive example of this historic material from one of the world's greatest mineral-producing districts.
