Item Description
Zincite, Franklinite and Calcite are signature species from the renowned Franklin Mine. This is a very showy and excellent two-sided small cabinet combination. Parallel-growth platelets of red Zincite crystal sections with waxy luster black coatings are very attractively set atop and in massive Calcite on both sides of the sculptural piece. Sharp, lustrous, black Franklinite octahedrons, to 5 mm, and crystal sections are richly embedded on the base and lower on one side of the calcite. The Franklin Mine is the Zincite and Franklinite Co-Type Locality with the nearby Sterling Mine. Neon-orange SW UV calcite fluorescence. Ex A.L. Kidwell Collection, who acquired this piece from John Sangree in 1958. From the worldwide mineral collection of Al Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. Classic and desirable old-time combination material from the famous Franklin Mine.
