Item Description
Zaratite is a rare secondary nickel carbonate and heazlewoodite is a rare nickel sulfide. They are commonly associated with each other. BUT, both species are NOT recorded from this mountain locale on the Gaspe Peninsula of eastern Quebec. Apple-green to grass-green zaratite richly coates all sides of the blocky matrix. Splendent, metallic, heazlewoodite microcrystals are concentrated in veinlets running down the front of the piece. Mt. Albert is mostly serpentine, which is the correct host rock for these species. Possibly unique material from this very uncommon and obscure locale, that is popular with hikers. Ex Howard Belsky Collection, who was very particular about his species and localites and had access to X-ray equipment. So I would tend to trust his ID
