Yugawaralite (superb rare crystals)

Item Description

Here we have a superb quality specimen of the rare zeolite species Yugawaralite from this now closed quarry in India. This particular piece dates back to the 1990s, and is an exemplary display specimen featuring excellent, vitreous, beautiful colorless to white bladed crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm with minor Quartz on matrix. The supreme luster and fairly good translucency of the crystals is excellent, along with the fact that they are big for the species, and well-isolated, not intergrown into a tight mass, so they are easy discernible from one another. There are also some chalky cream colored crystals of an unknown species on the piece (Laumontite?). For reference, this species was named after the Yugawara Hot Spring in Japan, which is the type locality. Despite all the tons of Indian zeolites that have been mined for the last several decades, these are few and far between, and considered extremely rare. The best Yugawaralite specimen in the world are found in India, and pieces like this should be prized as the best examples of the species ever found. Valued $3,500 for size, quality and rarity.
