Yttrofluorite on large Calcite crystal

Sparkly rich lavender yttrofluorite richly or partially covers all six faces of this impressive large and pristine sharply terminated calcite scalenohedron on this RARE new China find in 2021. The calcite crystal is glassy, translucent and near colorless. A second generation sprinkling of tiny, gemmy, sparkly very glassy calcite rhombs at the termination is a super accessory and complement. Yttrofluorite is a variety of fluorite containing an appreciable amount of trivalent yttrium (Y). Yttrofluorite is not commonly purple. It was originally reported as a species in Norway in the early 1900s, but was discredited and reclassified as a variety of fluorite in 2006 (MINDAT). This new find from China is a total surprise, and simply makes for a beautiful combination and style. This is a large and dramatic crystal! Valued at $1500-2000.
