Yttrofluorite on Calcite with Calcite (new finds)

Two faces of the impressive large and pristine, translucent calcite scalenohedron are dramatically, preferentially covered with patches of lavender yttrofluorite on this RARE new China find in early 2021. A second generation of tiny, gemmy, sparkly very glassy calcite rhombs is a super accessory and complement. Yttrofluorite is a variety of fluorite containing an appreciable amount of trivalent yttrium (Y). Yttrofluorite is not commonly purple. It was originally reported as a species in Norway in the early 1900s, but was discredited and reclassified as a variety of fluorite in 2006 (mindat). This new find from China is a total surprise, and simply makes for a beautiful combination and style. Valued at $1500-2000.
