Yttrofluorite on Calcite (RARE NEW FIND!)

A remarkable large specimen from an early 2021 find in China. This very flashy and colorful mounded specimen has a rich coating of tiny, very clear, second generation calcite rhombs almost completely covering the first generation purple yttrofluorite-coated scalenohedrons, to about 2.5 cm. The sparkly, drusy snow-white calcite below the dramatic field of purple spikes is a super contrast and accessory. The luster and sparkle is phenomenal and will draw people's eyes to it in a case. Yttrofluorite is a variety of fluorite containing an appreciable amount of trivalent yttrium (Y). Yttrofluorite is not commonly purple. It was originally reported as a species in Norway in the early 1900s, but was discredited and reclassified as a variety of fluorite in 2006 (mindat). This new find from China is a total surprise, and simply makes for a beautiful combination and style. Valued at $1250-1500.
