Item Description
This impressive large, translucent calcite scalenohedron is richly, preferentially covered on two sides with lavender Yttrofluorite from a RARE new Chinese find in 2021. The three coated second generation calcite rhombohedron bulges add dramatic sculptural appeal to the striking piece. The frontal display is pristine on this rare exemplary piece. Yttrofluorite is a variety of fluorite containing an appreciable amount of trivalent yttrium (Y). Yttrofluorite is not commonly purple. It was originally reported as a species in Norway in the early 1900s, but was discredited and reclassified as a variety of fluorite in 2006 (MINDAT). This new find from China is a total surprise, and simply makes for a beautiful combination and style. Valued at $1500-2000.
