Item Description

Xonotlite is a fairly rare inosilicate species (though Dana has it classified as an Amphibole mineral), found in scattered localities worldwide. Certainly, the best / most well-known specimens are those from the famous Wessels Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field in South Africa. This piece features eye-catching radial "sprays" ("puffballs") comprising, white needles Xonotlite, associated with pale pink Datolite crystals an translucent, white/colorless Calcite, on matrix. The largest Xonotlite "ball" measures 1.7 cm across. A great specimen for all you rare species collectors. These specimens are becoming harder to find on the market these days, but good ones are certainly worthwhile to pick up if you collect rarities.
