Item Description

Xanthophyllite is an antiquated synonym of clintonite, a rare Mica Group species. It is very uncommon from the famous Alpine deposits of the Malenco Valley. An impressive, large for the locale, 9 mm, clintonite crystal is surrounded by smaller crystals. The lustrous, laminated crystals have rich brown to neon-green color. There are more scattered clintonites on the hefty, vuggy solid vesuvianite matrix with numerous straw-yellow vesuvianite crystals. Large uncommon crystals on this fine old combination specimen. Ex Rolf Wein Collection, a noted Alpine specialist and acquired in 1972.
