Wupatkiite (incredibly rare) (ex Gary Weaver Collection)

Item Description

Wupatkiite is an incredibly rare hydrated cobalt magnesium nickel aluminum sulfate species that belongs to the Halotrichite group. It was named after the Wupatki pueblo structure near Cameron, Arizona, close to where the species was first discovered. Wupatkiite is found in LESS than 10 localities in the world. Now this specimen came with a label from Malcolm Atler that states it is from Red Canyon in Southeastern Utah. We cannot find a listing that mentions Wupatkiite coming from this area, but that's not to say it isn't legit, it could simply be a case of an unreported occurrence. With that said, it's a very fine example of the species featuring beautiful pink colored, fibrous crystals with minor attached matrix. The piece is notably lightweight as it only weighs 10.3 grams. I love the gentle curvature exhibited in some of the crystals. If you collect rarities, this is something that we've never seen or had to offer in the past, so don't miss out on this chance to pick up an incredibly rare mineral specimen from what is of now an unreported locality.
