Wulfenite (rare Arizona locale)

While there are hundreds of localities for Wulfenite in Arizona, not all of them produce good crystals, and there are plenty of places that produced only a small amount of material. This piece is from the lesser-known Empire Mine, just southeast of the town of Tombstone. This locality is long defunct, and specimens are incredibly hard to find on the market. This piece is a good quality small cabinet that is loaded with dozens of sharp, lustrous, gemmy, well-formed blades of golden-orange Wulfenite measuring up to 3 mm, associated with small spherical groups of slightly lighter yellow-orange Mimetite sitting on oxidized matrix. We have photographed the tiny crystals with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A rare specimen that would make a great addition to any Arizona suite or a collection of Wulfenites. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
