Wulfenite (Panczner Coll.)

Item Description

Huge crystals to 2.7 cm make this an important specimen from the San Francisco Mine, although it has unusual color in that it is a more brown-amber hue, compared to the usual orange or yellow colors. Tiny balls of mimetite grace the matrix. It is a balanced miniature, impressive for the size. The specimen is beautiful and the large crystal is pristine, but I can see how broken crystal in front (bottom-right) was nibbled down to reduce it and so there is a slight contact in the lower right, where that was removed. It is otherwise complete all around, and unusually robust for this location so that it can be mailed safely. It is from the important Mexican miniatures suite of Bill Panczner, also the author of the still-definitive book MINERALS OF MEXICO (1987) in addition to a major collector in his day. Bill was active in the day, as a collector of contemporary Mexican localities, and it is certainly from production in the early 1970s (or perhaps late 1960s).
