Wulfenite on Chrysocolla (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

The Wulfenites from the 79 Mine are diverse in terms of color, which can range from bright yellow to orange to a beautiful reddish-orange hue. Some of my favorite Wulfenites from the 79 Mine are the crystals on starkly contrasting Chrysocolla. This piece features several very sharp, highly lustrous, strong reddish-orange colored, blocky (almost pseudocubic) crystals of Wulfenite measuring up to 2 mm on edge sitting atop a layer of soft blue-green Chrysocolla which has formed "rosette"-shaped pseudomorphs after an unknown precursor mineral. Very attractive up close with good magnification. We photographed this piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality of the lovely Wulfenite crystals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10145). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
