Wulfenite on Calcite (classic material)

Wulfenite crystals typically from most worldwide localities are often found in thin tabular (and often brittle) examples, but the famous specimens from Los Lamentos are notably different in style/habit as they some of the thickest and most durable Wulfenites in the world. What's more, these classic specimens are some of the most iconic specimens of Wulfenite from any locality for their form and color. This piece features several gorgeous, thick, fine quality, beautiful saturated orange colored crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm, sitting on white flowing bubbly Calcite matrix (with a bit of iron staining in spots). Looking closely, I can't find any real damage to the Wulfenites, though there might be some micro imperfections, but it stands out as a very attractive piece, three-dimensional of this well-known material. I love the slick vitreous lusters on the crystals, which gives them character and a beautiful reflective sheen.

Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
