Wulfenite (good sized crystal) with Mimetite

Item Description

This is an older specimen from the Ojuela Mine, circa 1970s era of mining. While we've seen Wulfenite and Mimetite together in various forms from this mine, a piece like this is special in both quality and aesthetics. This miniature specimen hosts a good sized (2.9 cm across), sharp, well-formed, bladed crystal of light yellow-orange Wulfenite with a fairly richly coating of attractive, olive-green colored botryoidal Mimetite on both sides, sitting on a thin layer of matrix. The little Mimeties measure to about 2 mm across. There are some smaller accenting Wulfenite crystals on the piece for a nice touch. No major damage, I can see one small contact on the lower corner of the main Wulfenite crystal, but the top of the piece is virtually damage free. Very showy and fine quality.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0853). Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
