Wulfenite (fine quality)

A beautiful cabinet sized specimen of these classic, iconic and distinctive Wulfenite specimens from the Erupción Mine (Ahumada Mine) in Mexico. Wulfenite crystals are typically thin and tabular, but the crystals from this mine are notably blocky and thicker than almost any other Wulfenites you'll see. Additionally, they have a vivid orange color and they are at their best when they have high resinous luster like this piece. This full sized cabinet specimen is filled with dozens of sharp, well-formed, highly lustrous pseudo-cubic crystals of glowing orange to chocolate brown colored Wulfenite measuring up to 6 mm, on a thin layer of matrix. There is a bit of yellow Descloizite on the piece for a nice accent. I can't stress how shiny the crystals are, and they are very fun to view up close. This piece is very close to being a complete "floater", as it's crystallized all around, with only a few tiny points of attachment that I can see. Excellent quality, size and displayability. Valued $2,500. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
