Item Description
A great specimen of bright orange Wulfenite from the famous Old Yuma Mine in Arizona. The crystals show sharp, highly lustrous, very attractive orange color, fairly thick, bladed crystals free of matrix. A fairly good display specimen of this now hard to find material from this classic locality. Please note that the right side of the crystal shows where it was broken when it was removed from the pocket. I'm not quite sure why Wulff mounted the crystal "sideways" unless it wouldn't fit the other direction. This piece comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes mounted in a "Perky" box from Wulff with a note that it was purchased from Pardo's minerals in Tucson, Arizona.
