Wulfenite (collected in 1967)

The world-famous Red Cloud Mine in southwestern Arizona is one of the premier localities for Wulfenite, not only in Arizona, but the world. The vivid color seen in these crystals, combined with the often above average size, gemminess and overall crystal form makes them incredibly desirable. This piece is a lovely toenail sized display specimen is not from any recent mining, but rather was collected in 1967 by Leigh Price, a geologist from Colorado who went into the mine during his undergraduate days at Stanford University. The piece features vivid orange-red colored, sharp, highly lustrous, well-formed, tabular crystals measuring up to 1.6 cm on edge, with a bit of attached oxidized matrix. The color really comes through with backlighting. The piece is in great condition, with only a few small imperfections to the main crystal on the front of the specimen. Very good color and quality, and quite showy. A fine display quality specimen from this historic locality. Valued at $2,500.
