Item Description

There are probably more localities for Wulfenite in Arizona than any other state, but the Finch Mine is renowned for producing these unique and beautiful specimens of Wulfenite coated by Quartz. These attractive and distinctive specimens have such a wonderful appearance, which truly doesn't look like Wulfenites from anywhere else. This cabinet-sized specimen hosts tabular, eye-catching orange colored crystals of Wulfenite measuring up to 9 mm, which are coated by drusy Quartz. Additionally, the color of the Wulfenite crystals has a slight peach hue when backlit, creating a color rarely seen in the species. A few crystals are broken, but the piece is still in pretty good shape overall. A great quality and showy display specimen of these famous pieces from what is sometimes referred to as the "Barking Spider Mine". Hard to find on the market and a must have for any fan of Arizona minerals or worldwide Wulfenites.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 48.1.4.1 AZ.32; 9353. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
