Item Description

A beautiful specimen of the classic Wulfenites from the M'Fouati Mine. If you do a bit of digging, you'll find that this mine has produced a wide variety of Wulfenites over the years which range from thin tabular blades to robust thick crystals and colors from strong red to a soft yellow hue. This miniature sized specimen hosts a pair of sharp, gemmy, well-formed, lustrous, yellow crystals measuring up to 1.3 cm which a partial coating of white drusy Quartz on matrix. You can see a slight bit of internal "phantoming" in larger crystal when backlit. Both of the crystals have beautiful secondary modifications on the corners, not just your typical squared off habit. There is a bit of roughness on the top of each crystal where I believe the Quartz was removed to better expose the Wulfenites. A nice piece for anybody who collects worldwide Wulfenites or minerals from M'Fouati. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9245). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
