Wulfenite (classic material)

Item Description

This specimen is labeled as coming from Santa María del Oro in Durango, Mexico, but I'm certain it's actually from the Erupción Mine, Los Lamentos Mts, Ahumada Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico. The piece hosts a few rich orange colored crystals of Wulfenite measuring up to 1.1 cm sitting on white Calcite matrix. There are several other Wulfenite crystals on the specimen that are coated by sparkling, pseudo-metallic, brown Vanadinite (var: Arsenic-bearing - formerly "Endlichite"). You can actually see where the Vanadinite was coating some of the exposed Wulfenite crystals, but was removed to expose the gorgeous crystals underneath. Very good condition all over, no major damage that I can see, and a wonderful example of these beloved classic Wulfenites. Priced in the inventory at $1,400. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#215 MX), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
