Wulfenite (classic locality)

A few years ago, Wulfenite was named the state mineral of Arizona, and for good reason. There is no other state in the US that has produced anywhere close to the number of world-class specimens of this beloved lead tungstate. There are many key mines in Arizona that are world-famous for their Wulfenite crystals, and the Rowley Mine is certainly in the top tier in terms of color, form, size and quality. This showy miniature specimen features a few fiery orange colored Wulfenite crystals that measure up to 1.1 cm on matrix. Some tiny yellow-orange, thin prismatic crystals of Mimetite can also be seen on the piece for a nice touch. The Wulfenite crystals are highly lustrous, with an reflective glassy sheen on the surface, and some are even gemmy(!) when backlit. The smallest Wulfenite crystal is virtually WATER-CLEAR! No major damage I can find, which is rare for this locality, and it only amplifies the impressive overall quality of the crystals. The fact that the largest Wulfenite is over 1 cm is considered good sized for the locality. An impressive and desirable example from this historic locality that dates back to the early 1900s.
