Item Description

Color-zoned "sandwich style" tabular wulfenite prisms are chaotically intergrown on this sculptural and rich triangular small cabinet plate from the historic Helena Mine at Mezica. The large crystal is 2.2 cm. Prism edges are highly lustrous, while faces on one side have a preferential secondary matte overgrowth. Interesting fluid flow here. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only trivial periphery wear. Mezica has over 350 years of mining history. Read the 2014 Mineralogical Record article on the locale in Vol. 45, No. 1. The mines have produced a wide variety of wulfenite crystal forms. A fine example of this varietal from this famous wulfenite producing locale.
