Item Description

A rich and outstanding large wulfenite from one of Arizona's great localities for the species - the Glove Mine. This very showy old-timer is dramatically covered with lustrous, translucent, butterscotch prisms, to 1.4 cm. A couple of thicker prisms with an orange tint, plus the contrasting Psilomelane (hard manganese oxides) covering the gossan matrix add real pizzazz to this piece. The specimen was collected during the bonanza period of specimen production, from 1955-59. Intermittent production of this now extinct Pb-Zn-Ag-Cu-Au-Mo mine continued into the 1970s. See the fine 1983 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 14, No. 5, Arizona-V. Scott Williams priced this piece at $6.50 in 1957, not cheap in those days. The interior of this striking rich piece is pristine. Ex Eugene Sensel Collection. Valued at $1000 to 2000, low to high.
