Wulfenite circa 1900, ex Univ. Chicago

Wulfenite from Red Cloud has come out since the 1890s and this is a classic example of this oldest style, Predating WW1. This is a large, showy, sparkly matrix wulfenite specimen highlighted by a highly lustrous and translucent, rich, orange red crystal measuring a whopping huge 2.5 cm across (large!). Ex. University of Chicago collection (a turn of the 1900s era assemblage purchased by Schlepp and Conklin in the 1980s and dispersed) and then the Charles Noll collection. This specimen exhibits traits not found in newer Red Cloud wulfenites in terms of subtle differences of style and color, and the thick and rich matrix itself, that make it stand out. Although it has some minor damage, it is also large and showy and 100 years old, so I can accept some damages in context. Such pieces are SIMPLY NOT AVAILABLE on the market...
