Item Description

Wolframite is EXTREMELY RARE from ANY of the numerous Arizona locales, that MINDAT lists for the species. This mostly euhedral, blocky, hefty crystal is perhaps UNIQUE for Arizona. Two splendent prism faces of the submetallic crystal have beautiful dense filigrees of cherry-red color under bright light. The other two prism faces appear to be contacted and both ends are broken. It could be RARE ferberite, but the specimen has not be analyzed. The chunk of included quartz adds character. Hefty ore at 213 grams mass. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1598, which dates her acquisition to the late 1950s or early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
