Item Description

A classic example of the famous specimens of Witherite from the Nentsberry Haggs Mine. I've seen these specimens labeled as Witherite pseudomorphing to Barite or possibly Barytocalcite, and sometimes as alterations to Barite or Barytocalcite. I'm not entirely sure on this one, so I'm simply labeling it as Witherite with Barite. Sharp, orthorhombic (pseudohexagonal) crystals of soft golen yellow Witherite measuring up to 2.6 cm have a soft white exterior of Barite (possibly Barytocalcite). It's rather sculptural with well-formed crystals, and only a little bit of damage. OLD MATERIAL, very hard to find on the market these days. The piece comes with an old label, but it doesn't state to whom or where the piece belonged originally.
