Item Description

Classic large Illinois witherite. Intergrown rounded masses of translucent, yellowish-tan, stepped-growth, witherite crystals rest on baryte matrix. Periphery wear is noted, but this remains an impresssive, large, highly representative example of the specie and famous locale. Ghostly white fluorescence. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and purchased in 1968, when these were coming out. This I a huge example of the classic form of witherite from the locale, and might be priced as much as a few thousand dollars in today's robust market for classic Illinois minerals.
