Item Description

Some of the finest crystallized examples of the carbonate species Witherite ever found are those from Southern Illinois. These good sized, well-formed crystals with their beautiful stepped faces and soft golden hues make them instantly recognizable among mineral collectors. While Witherite has a simple chemistry, it's notably difficult to find in any capacity, especially in crystals of this size and quality. This toenail sized specimen features a beautiful, pseudohexagonal crystal of translucent pale golden-beige Witherite with minor attached matrix. There is one spot on one of the edges where the crystal grew against the pocket wall, but overall it's in very good condition. It's much harder to find a specimen with a good quality Witherites like this on the market today, and this is a very nice example of this elusive, high quality material. Valued $750.
From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
