Item Description

The classic old Witherite specimens from Northumberland are some of the best examples of the species ever found. These historic specimens feature fine quality crystals with a distinctive form. This miniature sized piece features a few translucent, well-formed, silvery/white colored, stepped-growth crystals in the typical tapered pseudo-hexagonal conical habit measuring up to 1.4 cm on minor matrix. I can't find any real damage on the display side, outside of the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. It's important to note the quality of the crystals, as they are somewhat lustrous and pass light, not the chalky white opaque examples seen from Alston Moor. A good quality example of these historic and important old-time specimens. Valued $1,000.
From the worldwide mineral collection of Rich ("Dick") Hauck of New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
