Wire Silver & Calcite (2010 find)

Item Description

A showy dense nest of elegant curled, curved and protruding silver wires richly covers one end of the vug lined with spherical aggregates of densely intergrown, tiny, lustrous, translucent, gray calcite rhombohedrons on the large sculptural matrix. The nicely burnished wires probably reach about 2.0 cm long straightened out. The two stout wires are 1.3 cm long and are up to 3 mm thick. The excellent piece is from more modern era finds in China, not the older source in Shanxi (although they look similar). These contemporary Chinese silvers look a lot like some German styles from old times or from recent finds in Morocco.
