Item Description
Wiluite is a rare member of the Vesuvianite Group and these crystals from Wilui were once thought to be vesuvianites. This fine piece is from the Type Locality in Russia. A sharp, 1.5 cm, glassy, partially translucent, doubly terminated, mottled olive-green crystal is aesthetically set in nifty porphyroblastic matrix. A termination is partially contacted, but has no damage, per se. A highly representative and excellent example of this rare species from the Fioravanti Collection obtained in an exchange with the University of Naples Mineral Museum in 1978. It comes with an old Naples label, which probably dates to prior to World War I (Imperial Russia). Old and uncommon in this age
