Item Description
The Franklin Mining District in New Jersey is one of the most species-rich areas on Earth. Hundreds of species have been reported from Franklin and Sterling Hill, many of which were first discovered there. One of the most iconic species from the area is Willemite, often found in/on Calcite, and this piece is a good representative example featuring dark brownish-red crystals measuring to about 5-6 mm, sitting on massive off-white colored Calcite with minor black Franklinite. Under SW UV light, the Willemite fluoresce a brilliant green hue, and the Calcite glows with a strong pinkish-red color. Classic material from one of the world's great mineral localities.
Ex Art Smith collection of Houston, Texas.
