Item Description
Weloganite is a very rare strontium, sodium, zirconium carbonate and this showy and excellent thumbnail specimen is from the famous Type Locality - the now-closed Francon Quarry in Montreal, Quebec. The tapered, hour glass-shaped, layered, translucent, grayish-white to amber crystal is aesthetically accented with brown (?unknown sp?) microcrystal clusters. The coating is in fact probably another species. This extremely rare species is known at its best from a very few pockets at this cement quarry, which has incredibly strange chemistry and has produced a number of such rarities in the past. Not available now, except from advanced recycled collections. Complete all-around and pristine. Ex Dick Jones Collection. superb, huge crystal, valued $750
