Weloganite (superb rare classic material)

Weloganite is only found in a few localities in the world - all in Canada - and the Francon Quarry, along with being the type locality for the species is the only locality for significant Weloganite specimens, period. The best of these pieces came out over 40 years ago, and are highly prized by collectors for their unique form, unusual chemistry and beautiful crystallization. The species was named after William Edmond Logan, the first director of the Geological Survey of Canada. This attractive small cabinet display specimen features a fine quality, sharp, lustrous, translucent, doubly-terminated / multi-terminated, yellow color crystal group of Weloganite measuring a full 3.3 cm nestled on the host rock matrix. Great quality, no damage, and complete all the way around. This is an extremely rare mineral with an unusual chemistry (sodium, strontium, zirconium carbonate), and good specimens are remarkably few and far between these days. The Fracon Quarry closed down in 1981 and will never reopen as it's positioned in the middle of the island and city of Montreal. Please note that this locality is close to the famous Mt. Saint Hilaire Quarry in Quebec, so sometimes these specimens are labeled as coming from MSH, but the best ones were found at Francon.
