Item Description

Weloganite is an ultra rare, strontium, sodium, zirconium carbonate and this showy and excellent specimen is from the famous Type Locality - the now-closed Francon Quarry in Montreal, Quebec. A nifty, 2.2 cm, well-placed cluster of lustrous, translucent, light olive-green, tapered and typically layered weloganite crystals rests on limestone matrix covered with whitish cacite rhombs. There are more weloganite crystals scattered on the piece and the larger compound crystal on the edge is 1.2 cm. Ex Schwethelm Collection, with another label saying this piece was collected in January, 1976. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock. valued $300-500. Matrix exampls are uncommon and no new ones have been found in decades!
