Item Description

Some of the most aesthetic and displayable specimens of Wavellite have come from the Siglo XX mine in Bolivia as described by Mark Bandy. This specimen is from a brand recent find of this material (late 2010). This piece features several lustrous, sphere-shaped radiating aggregates measuring up to 2.3 cm across on golden Pyrite matrix creating a very attractive and unique specimen. The most interesting aspect of the piece is the fact that the Wavellites are BLACK, which is a complete turn from the normal white/cream/yellow colored spheres that we're used to seeing from this mine. Obviously the color is caused by an inclusion of an unknown mineral, but how often does one see black Wavellite??? The quality of the spheres is good, despite a little bit of roughness, especially when compared to finds from the last 15 years at Siglo XX. A nice display specimen of an uncommon mineral, with a really cool color.
