Wavellite (rare locality)

Item Description

A notably hard to find, and frankly very good quality example of Wavellite from Wiśniówka Wielka (Wiseniowker in Kurt's collection catalogue), Poland. This showy small cabinet specimen features several radiating aggregates of golden-brown Wavellite measuring up to 1.2 cm across, sitting atop a sugary druse of Quartz on host rock matrix. The majority of the spheres are complete and undamaged, though there are a couple bruises that I can see. The piece has a saw mark on the bottom, so it actually can stand up on its own without the aid of a base or clay, but it's a little precarious, so I would recommend either having a custom base made or securing it to a base to keep it from falling over. These are rare on the market, virtually unseen these days, and if you collect phosphates or minerals from Poland, do not miss out on this excellent example.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#7 Po), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
