Item Description

A classic and showy large older wavellite specimen from the well-known deposits at Avant. Two pristine wavellite balls, both 1.9 cm, smaller balls and striking radial sections of broken balls are aesthetically set in the vug of sculptural large brecciated oxide-coated chert matrix. The pristine balls have classic mint-green color, nubby surfaces and moderate lustre. Two other sides of the triangular piece expose many more of the exotic broken radial sections of lustrous, color-zoned needles. Ex Don Owens Collection. Don was the Chief Geologist at the old Union Carbide vanadium mine in Arkansas, that operated intermittently from 1941 to 1986 (MINDAT) and we recently obtained his collection. This is a classic, desirable older style of wavellite from Avant, possibly from Dug Hill.
