Wavellite (2024 find)

Impressive and rich large wavellite from a NEW 2024 find at well-known Mauldin Mountain of Arkansas. The sculptural vug in brecciated shale matrix is fully lined with two hues of green, bladed botryoids, that reach 1.3 cm. Rich green, lustrous, translucent botryoids predominate, covering about 2/3 of the right side of the piece. The left side has lighter green botryoids with less luster. The noted periphery wear and contacting reveals the radial growth of the botryoids, adding character and is certainly minimally detracting in the context of this showy piece. The specimen displays well without aid. Classic, sculptural large material with rich green color, luster and aesthetics make this some of the finest wavellite in the world from James Zigras' Mauldin Mountain Mine. This is the best pocket they have found in literally a decade!
