Item Description
Wad is a generic name for (often poorly crystalline) soft manganese oxides/hydroxides, often containing significant amounts of hydroxides/oxides of other metals and all mixed together in a weird biomorphic growth (MINDAT). This is a dramatically sculptural 360-degree column of typical botryoids, with a surreal soft golden/bronzy iridescence to the large botryoids on top. Wad is RARE from this famous old Mn and Fe mine, opened in 1885 and closed in 1971. Formerly in the H. Westenberger and Stefan Stolte Collections. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in Tucson in 2007. VERY light weight at 15.45 grams mass! An important, perhaps unique specimen on today's market, from the ancient and well-known locale.
