Item Description
Vonsenite is a very rare iron borate species, part of the Ludwigite group. For reference, this specimen is labeled as "Ludwigite - Vonsenite", but Ludwigite has never been reported from Mt Vesuvius, so it's certainly Vonsenite. This piece hosts micro "needles" of semi-metallic, silvery-black colored Vonsenite sitting on Sanidine volcanic matrix. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A really cool and hard to find rarity from this world famous locality! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10072). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
