Volborthite with Vesignieite

Item Description

From the old vanadium-uranium mines of the Colorado Plateau area is this colorful piece of Volborthite and Vesignieite. This particular mine had its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s in the Monument Valley area of Arizona and this specimen is a great example of the secondary oxidized vanadium-uranium ores found at the Monument No. 1 Mine. Bright olive-green to almost chartreuse clusters of platy, less than 1 mm Volborthite are strewn atop the matrix as are the darker green Vesignieite crystals of similar habit making for a super colorful piece with great contrast on the grayish matrix. A great piece for both species from this historic mine!
