Item Description
Here is a great old locality specimen of Vivianite from the famous Siglo XX Mine. This is one of the great mines in the last 100+ years, and The Mineralogical Record dedicated an entire issue was to this unique and historic locality. This large cabinet display specimen features many attractive, semi lustrous, translucent, dark blue green color, prismatic crystals of Vivianite measuring up to 1.2 cm which are associated with tan discs of Siderite partially coating some thin gem quality "needles" of Quartz. You can see some brown Limonite and small amount of black Sphalerite here and there. Many of the Vivianites are slightly "curved" which is not unheard of for the species, and certainly gives the piece character. Lastly, and most significantly, the pieces features a few sharp, gemmy, light pink tabular color crystals of Apatite. This rare combination of Vivianite with Apatite is rarely seen from this mine or any other world locality. it should be noted that the largest Apatite crystal, measures about 1.0 cm, although it is partial / contacted. This is older material, dating back to the 1980s and possibly as far back as the 1970s. This is not only one of the largest specimens of this material that I've seen, but it's honestly one of the better examples of this material featuring multiple associated species. Priced at $950 in the inventory. Please note that this large specimen will require an additional shipping cost, so please keep this in mind when bidding. 1.2 x 1.0
